This report presents an overview of the demographic shifts among working screen and television writers in recent years, comparing current data with figures from a decade ago to highlight evolving trends in employment demographics. Additionally, it includes insights into the demographics of new Guild members, particularly in light of the changing landscape for MBA writers. The rise of the streaming model, both for television series and feature films, has reshaped the industry, leading to shorter episode orders for TV writers and a greater emphasis on tentpole productions for screenwriters. However, the recent pandemic-induced interruptions in production have temporarily reduced job opportunities. Despite these challenges, with media companies investing significantly in streaming content, a rebound in employment numbers is anticipated, with a focus on streaming jobs for both TV and screenwriters. Furthermore, the report notes a movement toward a more diverse workforce, particularly at the entry level of television writing, reflecting ongoing changes in hiring patterns.
